Gordon Allen

Gordon Allen was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 and almost died because he did not know that a man could get breast cancer. He is now aware that his symptoms were typical of breast cancer in a man but as a result of ignoring these his cancer was stage 2 when diagnosed.

He had his left breast removed and went on a course of hormone therapy and he went into remission quickly. Fifteen years later he was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer. Because he had known immediately that something was wrong and acted quickly, it was caught at an early stage and is very treatable.

He is passionate about raising awareness in any way he can. He has spoken in the media and on radio telling all men to keep an eye on their breasts and if anything changes to get to the doctor without delay.

He is a Moderator at the VMU and is grateful for the platform to be able to join other men in spreading the word and of course sharing his diagnosis and treatments with the other men. Gordon is married with a daughter and is a lay preacher in the methodist church.
